My level 2 class came to me from the Middle School program
They are all 9th graders. All of my level 5 students are juniors
this year. Last year was the first year I had most of my 9th
graders in level 2 choose to NOT continue with Russian. Reasons
cited were increased core subject requirements for graduation.
(less room for electives) although all students are taking 7
courses every year as opposed to the previously required 6 courses.
Not all of the students who take Russian in 7th and 8th grade
are accepted to the magnet high school (BTW, the only placethey
can continue with Russian)Most of my level 1 students are 11th
and 12th graders who are wanting to start a second foreign language
before they graduate.I had 2 students take the International
Baccalaureate exam and recieved a score of 6. Both students
have graduated. The lack of an AP exam is having an impact on
my enrollments. I get many parental and student inquirries as
to when there wil be an AP Russian exam offered.
