As part of the tuition, students have access to AU facilities, such as Bender Library, the pool, and weight room. Students are responsible for purchasing textbooks.

Scholar Mentors are current AU students who will spend time with Community of Scholars' students and provide academic support and guidance.
What is a typical day at Community of Scholars?
Students attend AU classes every morning from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This schedule will vary, depending on field trips and talks with guest speakers. Lunch will be provided on campus every day from 12 noon to 1 p.m. After lunch, students have the option to take advantage of mentored study time, attend occasional workshops, or use AU facilities, such as Bender Library, the pool, and fitness room. Students may also choose to return home.
Does your program include a residential option?
This year Community of Scholars is designed as a commuter program. We encourage students from outside the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to make separate living arrangements with friends and relatives who live in the area. The AU campus is within walking distance of Metro’s Tenleytown transit station, and is accessible to many bus lines. Daily pay parking is also available.

There are a limited number of need-based scholarships for Washington, DC, students. For more information, please email us at communityofscholars@american.edu.
How do I obtain a transcript after completing the program?
Once all work is completed and graded, students will be given an official transcript documenting their credit. To obtain additional transcripts, or to have transcripts sent to colleges or universities, students must fill out a transcript request form that can be downloaded from AU’s web-site. Completed forms should be faxed to the Office of the Registrar at 202-885-1046 or mailed to the following address:
