Twenty-Year Club Celebration

Invitation only. The university honors staff and retirees with twenty or more years of service at a special dinner and presentation ceremony in the Katzen Arts Center. March 1, 2007: Dr. Seuss Activities
On Thursday, March 1st, 2007 an enthusiastic set of American University volunteers, consisting of students, staff and faculty will visit 4 DC elementary schools adorned with Dr. Seuss hats, and bringing activity packets. Volunteers will read Dr. Seuss books to pre-k through 2nd grade classes, engage the kids in with Dr. Seuss themed-activities, and by their presence demonstrate that reading is fun. Also each class volunteers visit will receive a Dr. Seuss book to keep in their classroom and every child will receive bookmarks as a small encouragement to continue reading.
We are currently looking for volunteers to come out from 9:30am-12:30pm on Thursday, March 1st. Transportation will be provided. To sign up or get more information email volunteer@american.edu. February 21, 2007: New Date for Staff Council Book Swap
Staff Council’s semiannual book swap has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Bender Arena Lobby. Drop off up to 10 books (no textbooks), magazines, videos, DVDs, or CDs at the Bender Lobby between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. you can return and take up to the same number of items you donated. November 21, 2006: Staff Council's Open Meeting on Presidential Search
Today we invited Gary M. Abramson, Chairman, Presidential Search Committee, Shelly Storbeck, Edward W Kelley & Partners’ Vice President and Managing Director, Robin Beads, Associate Director, Institutional Research and Assessment and Staff Member Representative to the Presidential Search Committee to join Kelvin Wilson, Staff Council Chair, in a discussion and update about the Presidential Search Committee.
The panel invited those in attendance to give their input for an ideal AU President candidate. Along with the panel, Gary Abramson wrote to the AU community with an update as to the search. Please email PresSearch@american.edu if you have any suggestions, comments or questions regarding the search. Your input is important and welcomed.
Update: Holiday Turkey Drive
The Staff Council raised $2,690.00 for the DC Central Kitchen and Covenant House Washington. By figuring $20.00 equals one turkey, that means AU Staff was able to donate over 134 turkeys to help feed the less fortunate this Thanksgiving. Thank you all who supported this great cause!

October 18, 2006: Staff Council Fall Reception
Join us in Mary Graydon Center rooms 4, 5 and 6 at 12:30pm for our annual Fall Reception! Meet fellow staff members and see old friends over a delicious buffet. President Kerwin will attend and thank the staff for their hard work.
